Local Offer Description

I run my business from home which is warm and welcoming with a loving and caring atmosphere. I have a dedicated playroom for the children's enjoyment and offer a wide range of activities.

My main goal is that all children leave my care happy and with a feeling of accomplishment and inclusion. Whilst in my care children are taught manners, their rights to be happy, to share and respect other people's feelings and wishes so in turn their's will also be met.

With a happy, friendly and caring environment all children thrive and have a higher willingness to learn.

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

Before children join my setting I speak with parents to understand where their child/children are developmentally if they may have concerns or worries about their child's development.

I get to know all the children in my care really well by spending time with them in play. I understand that all children develop and learn at different rates and I do all I can to support their individual needs in all aspects of their learning, development and care. I carry out 2 year checks to help identify any area's where there may be an issue.

If a concern is identified I will speak with the child's parents and any other setting the child is involved with (with parental permission) and possibly advise speaking with the child's health visitor or doctor to access any help that the child may need.

2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

I communicate daily with parents, verbally, through the child's daily diary and via texts or emails. I also ask that parents keep me informed in their child's life at home, what their current interests are, anything that may be bothering them etc.

3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

Every child is an individual with their own interests, wants, needs and desires. I will use the information gained about each child in my care to develop planned activities which will challenge and meet the needs (developmentally, emotionally and socially) of all the children involved. Sometimes this is difficult to achieve for example if one child likes animals and the other likes baby dolls and pushchairs it can be difficult to integrate the 2 interests so sharing and taking turns often comes into play. Sometimes however 2 activities of different interests can be combined for example train set and farm set, or play dough and farm set, etc.

Children will be encouraged to join in all activities and praised when they do. I usually find that the child comes away with new interests because the interlinked activity was so much fun!

4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

I don't have any training or experience working with children with additional needs or learning difficulties. But I adapt an approach which all children thrive from. I think patience and understanding is key when working with all children. When they know they are valued for who they are and the strengths they have they thrive! However, if a child in my setting was identified as having special needs I would work with local agencies working with the child and the child's parents to come up with a plan best suited to the child's needs. Unfortunately this may sometimes mean seeking alternative care arrangements as I have to think about the needs of every individual in the setting.

5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

I don't have any training or experience working with SEND.

6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

Your childs progress is monitored using a daily diary where I will communicate with you about their day. This will include what we have been up to, their care routine and behaviour. You will get the opportunity to contribute to the childs dairy on a daily basis if you so wish. I also communicate using whatsapp where I will send photos and videos.

7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

If I have a child with SEND or additional needs in my setting, trips would only take place if the safety of all children in my care can be guaranteed. To do this I will need to complete risk assessments. This would usually mean having less children in my care at the time of the trip to enable inclusion.

8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

I have steps leading up to the entrance of my house. The door is wide access as is the door to my living room. A double (side by side) pushchair can get through.

9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

I will talk to the child about starting school or the new setting and make it as positive as possible. I will also complete a transition form for the new setting/school to see where the child is developmentally, emotionally and any needs they may have.

10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

I speak to parents and carers of the children in my care and also hand out questionnaires to find out from the parents what I am doing well and what I can improve on.

11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

You should contact  Michelle Neve on 07568 167 638 or email shell.neve@gmail.com

12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

I had a compliments and complaints book situated at the front entrance but it was never used in 6 years so I took it down. If a parent wants to compliment me or the setting they usually do so to me in person. Complaints can be trickier but I try to keep communication open and honest which means parents feels comfortable talking to me and expressing any issues they may have. I then document this as well as the outcome.
