- 1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?
When a child turns 2 I complete a 2 year progress check which will be discussed with parents once completed, any issues will be brought up and discussed and a program will be drawn up to address the issues (if any). The 2 year progress check can also be taken with the child to the Health Visitor when they have their 2 year check.
I do regular observations on the children this can be written and photo's these are uploaded onto the babydays system, parents can also upload any observations that they see. Next steps are also put in place for each child and activities are planned around the childrens next steps. It is also great to have parents input and any ideas they have to help their childs progress.
I share information with other settings, this can be if a child attends two settings, moves on to school, or moves onto another setting their learning journey will go with them.
When the child starts at the setting they will be observed and parents asked if they have any concerns about the child, and a starting point for the childs development will be set.
- 2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?
You will be given a "all about me book" to complete this gives me information of your child and a great way of building a relationship with your child talking about their family and what they like. A care plan can be completed if required and this can be completed together.
I use the babydays system, each parent will be given a unique log in and password and you can view your childs daily diary, photo's and lots of other useful links. I also text, call, and use e-mails to keep parent's informed.
Each child has a Learning Journey which records observations, photos, etc of your childs time with me and this will go with the child to any other settings they attend. Good communication with parents/carers is vital to keep up to date with any changes or new information.
- 3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?
I do weekly topics with the childrens next steps in and this is also very much child led, interests that they bring to the setting will be included with the planning that has already been set for the term.
Acitivities are adapted for each individual child, allowing them to achieve.
- 4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?
I currently look after some children with additional needs and learning difficulties and I adapt activities to meet their individual needs I also have support of the local authority and can access help to put needs into place. I would do my very best to accomodate SEND if required.
- 5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?
I hold a SEND policy which is available to read at any time in a hardcopy and on the babydays system, I have attended courses over the years concerning children with special needs and also attended a Makaton course. I have risk assessments in place these can be flexible to suit the childs needs.
I can also contact the Local Authority for any other information or resources that are needed.
- 6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?
I track the childs development on a weekly basis, I write termly reports for parents to look at and sign and I also complete a daily diary and complete 2 year checks all this is on the babydays system. If the parent requests a meeting this can be arranged.
I am always available to chat on the phone or at the end of a working day, and have always had excellent relations with other settings ie nurseries and schools in the local area.
- 7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?
Careful planning and consideration is undertaken before any trips take place, risk assessments of the local parks and outdoor areas are completed to ensure the safety and suitability of the trip and that it meets the needs of all the children attending that day, with outings further afield thoroughly checked out before the trip takes place.
- 8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?
There is no step into the house from the front or back. The living room, and kitchen are flat open areas. The garden is also flat, having paving and astro laid.
- 9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?
The child's Learning Journey will go with the child to their new setting for the new practitioner to set their targets, a meeting can be arranged to discuss if this is required. I would be happy to write a report on the child and the child's time in my setting, their goals, achievements and needs.
School/nursery/home visits are available along with activities to help the child transition as smoothly as possible.
- 10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?
I have excellent feedback from previous and present parents about their childs development and experience within my setting. I have had many referrals from minders who need a new setting for their families or if they can not help any new families. I try and update my SEF as much as possible to help my own development and to improve my setting and keep update with new policies and procedures. I attend the provider update meetings, this provides up to date information for childcare settings.
- 11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?
myself - Lisa Clark
- 12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?
I have a complaints/feedback book available all the time, I display the parents poster and I send out regular questionnaires to all parents and encourage feedback. I have references and thank you cards and my Ofsted Report is always available to read. Parents can contact me via phone, email, text, face to face.
