The Playstation After School Club @ Sandy Lane

Sandy Lane Out of School Club is based in the lower school hall at Sandy Lane Primary School. We provide before and after school care for children aged 4 to 11 years. Our experienced play workers help each child settle in and make lots of new friends.

After school club £7.50 per session includes drink and a snack. Sibling discount rate of £5.50 per additional child.The club is available to children from other schools but no transport is provided.

Local Offer Description

The Playstation is a non-profit, committee managed organisation based in a local Primary School. The Club operates a breakfast, after school and holiday club for families in the local community. The Playstation aims are to provide affordable, quality childcare in a safe and secure environment, offering the children play opportunities they might otherwise be unable to access. The Club is Ofsted regulated and all staff are provided access to training and hold relevant qualifications to their positions. The club operates on an Anti-Discriminatory and equal opportunities basis and all children are included regardless of race, religion, gender and abilities. The Playstation Out Of School Club’s named Manager is Laurie Hughes. The Playstation Out Of School Club’s named Supervisor is Ellie Busciglio. 

1: How does the setting identify children with additional needs or SEND?

The setting has a named SENCO who has had training in additional needs and SEND. Staff monitor children and make observations of individual children or groups to identify strengths and weaknesses. Staff liaise with other professionals involved with the child and share information to help with this process.  


2: How will I be informed / consulted about the ways in which my child is being supported?

When a child joins the setting parents are required to fill out a registration form which asks about medical and dietary conditions, allergies and any other conditions which could affect the child’s time in the setting. We have an open door policy and encourage parents/carers to discuss any concerns they might have. The staff respect that the parent/carer is the child’s main care provider and discuss the child’s likes/dislikes, strengths and weaknesses and plan activities to support the child’s needs.


3: How will the setting adapt the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for my child's needs?

All the resources and equipment are appropriate for the age range that attend the setting (4-12) and cover all of the areas of the EYFS learning goals. 


4: What teaching strategies does the setting use for children with additional needs or learning difficulties?

The setting has visual aids for activities, fire drills, handwashing and toilets. Activities are accessible to everyone. The setting provides pencils, crayons and paintbrushes in different lengths and widths for different abilities. We identify play types, observe children and adapt activities to help different children to reach their goals. 


5: What additional support does the setting provide for children with additional needs or SEND?

The club accesses training for staff to ensure they have an understanding of the children’s needs and are able to provide for individual requirements. Children are not singled out or made to feel different the club are unable to provide one to one support for children due to finance. However if this was funded through another source we can oblige. 


6: How will the setting monitor my child's progress and how will I be involved in this?

The Playworkers make observations and activities can be adapted to help children achieve their goals. Parents are welcome to discuss their child’s progress and help staff by suggesting activities that they feel will benefit their child. 


7: How do you ensure children with additional needs or SEND can be included in the same activities as other children, including trips?

All the activities are age and ability appropriate for the children attending the club. They are accessible to everybody, the right height for a child’s wheelchair to fit under and there is adequate space between tables and mats for children to move around freely. The children in the club are encouraged to put benches back under tables and keep the floor clear of toys. No trips during term time. 


8: How accessible is the building for children with mobility difficulties / wheelchair users?

There is an entrance on the same level as the hall and a ramp leading from the garden to the hall. There is a disabled toilet just off our hall on the same level. 


9: How will you support my child's transition to a new setting or school?

When new children join the setting they are introduced to the staff and another child is asked to be their buddy. A member of staff usually holds a consultation with the children and goes through the behaviour charter so they know what is expected of them. 


10: How does the setting assess the overall effectiveness of its SEN provision and how can parents / carers take part in this evaluation?

As the Playstation is a play provision we make observations and evaluations of activities and play situations. The evaluations are useful to see as adaptations or changed can be made to suit different needs. Parent/Carer feedback is welcomed and valued as they know their children’s needs better. 


11: Who should I contact if I am considering registering for a place at the setting?

The club Manager Laurie Hughes or Supervisor Ellie Busciglio. 


12: What arrangements does the setting have for feedback from parents / carers, including compliments and complaints?

There are note books on the signing in/out table ‘compliments/suggestions’ and ‘complaints’ for parents/carers to make comments. The club displays a copy of the clubs complaints procedure on the notice board. The staff are always welcome to feedback as well.
