Speech, Language & Communication

Good communication skills are key to children’s learning and well being.  There is a lot you can do to encourage and support your child's communication- try visiting your local Library Bounce & Rhymes sessions; toddler groups and Family Hub activities . BBC Tiny Happy People (Instagram and Facebook) is designed to help you support your child with speech and language development at home.

Once your child starts preschool or nursery, early years practitioners (such as childminders and nursery / preschool staff) are required to regularly monitor a child’s progress using the Early Years Foundation Stage Guidance and will discuss progress with you. Children develop at different rates; please refer to Speech & Language UK - Information and Support for further information.
